What is Color Analysis?
Color analysis, put simply, is determining the types of colors that will best enhance your natural beauty. I say types of colors because, at least with the system that I use, most people can wear most colors (pink, green, blue, etc). A soft, warm pink may look drastically better on you than a bright, cool pink, however.
That’s because wearing colors that resonate with your own natural coloring has all kinds of favorable effects…
- Your eyes pop.
- Shadows, lines, and blemishes become less apparent.
- Your skin tone evens out.
- You look healthy and well-rested.
You’ll also stop wasting money on clothes that you never wear and makeup that sits in a drawer. There’s no more guessing about what’s going to make you feel great.
Many people have heard of color analysis in the context of the seasonal color analysis that was popular a couple of decades ago. It started as a four-season system and later evolved to twelve, sixteen, or even more seasons. Before finding Your Color Style, I trained in a system with 22 seasons!
The downside of this kind of seasonal color analysis is that it’s very narrow and, unless you really understand exactly why your results are what they are, not necessarily all that helpful. It’s also pretty subjective. I had three seasonal color analyses done and I was given three different results: soft summer, cool summer, and light summer… which are three pretty different color palettes!
The system I use to do color analysis is different. The Your Color Style system is based on two color wheels: a bright color wheel and a soft color wheel. Each of us has features and coloring that tend more toward bright or soft and the first step of the system is to determine which set of colors is best for you. The second step of the system is to determine whether you look your best in the warm or the cool colors within your color wheel. Finally, the last step is to determine the depth of coloring that will best highlight your natural beauty.
When I do your color analysis, I include a video which shows you each step of the process so you come away with a clear understanding of why the colors in your palette are the ones that will light you up. It’s important to me that you feel great about your results, so if anything feels off to you (which can happen if lighting isn’t quite right in a photo, for example), I’ll keep working with you until we get it right.
